Crunch emerges from the tunnel, as a hawk, and flies up high above a forest. Tucked into a crowd of trees, he spots a tower and investigates. He sees a series of hedges forming concentric circles inside of which were giant red birds. The tower seems recently built, it’s stones and window shutters too tightly fit for a bat to squeeze through. A smoking chimney revealed activity inside but the fire was extinguish before Crunch could plug the chimney and force the inhabitants to open the windows. Just then, a small rider on a pony rode away from the tower and with led Crunch back to town just as Nonum was handing over his ears. After the commotion, the hooded figure crossed through the courtyard inside the North Gate and ducked into a building.
Minty, Nonum, Fanderbell wander around the North Gate courtyard considering their next step. Nonum and Minty head into a North Gate home that has been converted into a stand and drink pub. They taste some shitty beer, hear some patrons discuss the Yapping Ginger for good food and drink, and the Siren’s Mark to see the dancers. When asked about working at the docks, the patrons reveal that most work is day-to-day, and it takes months to get into the steady work on onto Captain Fayokin’s ships unless you can make friends with him.
Outside, Fanderbell sees an exchange between a halfling and a member of the Watch. The watch guard gives the halfling a guarantee that his men will be away from their post and that the other crew will be rookies, easy to take care of if things don’t go as smooth. The guard mentioned that it would happen the next night.
A street girl approaches Nonum and tries to sell him a dagger. Not taking the bate, she then offers to sell him some Dookit Juice and since she’s not suppose to have possession of it, she asks Nonum to follow her to somewhere more private. After Nonum agrees, they walk a ways and enter an alley. Crunch chooses to follow the party from above instead of continuing to watch for the cloaked figure from the tower. The street girl runs ahead of Nonum, Fanderbell follows, and they both become surrounded by a quick fisted monk (Roscoe), a beefy fighter, an ogre (illusion), and the bard girl. With the girl playing some music, and the monk’s speedy fists, the team takes quite a beating, but manage to wittle him down while the fighter protects the girl with his body. After the monk goes down, the girl and the fighter manage to escape. The party leaves the scene before it’s discovered they’ve drawn weapons, and crunch lingers behind and cuts the monks eyes out and stabilizes him.
The party settles back into a dark corner of the Yapping Ginger where they order some ginger beer and take a short rest. Crunch talks up Porkins, the half-orc owner, and he reveals that the tower NW of town belongs to K’sna Spinder and his small friend is likely his apprentice Ryella Shalecast. Fanderbell’s 24 hours of invisibility ends, but it has likely saved him in the 4 battles the party has been involved in.
